"Wide Awake"

This is from my blog Oscar the Pastor from July. My feelings haven't changed. Does anyone else feel this way?

Holding Together

I've always been a political junkie. I interned for my congressman back in the summer of 1990. What a wonderous time. Here I was, a kid from Flint, Michigan interning with his congressman and seeing some of the political greats. I remember having the opportunity to see Nelson Mandela give a speech to a joint session of Congress. Here was a man that I heard about, who only a few months prior was released from prison. This man that the then-racist government in South Africa tried to break, was standing in front of Congress unbowed.

Moving into the 21st Century

I remember Nate brought up a long time ago ( i cant remember when), should DisciplesConnect stay its course or should DisciplesConnect change it's strategy in a way to become a player to better connect young adults and empower the greater church to connect so that it can carry its ministry across nations from their computer?

A new M.A.C.C. Disciple Creed?

Re: Mission Alignment Coordinating Council

It has taken two hundred years but I believe the Christian Church Disciples of Christ has come full circle. We started off as a movement which rejected all denominational creeds and embraced the freedom to interpret scripture for ourselves. Today there is a call to bring all expressions of the church and ethnic minority ministries under tighter reign and subject them to a certification process in order to recieve adequate funding.

Lost in Translation

No, I'm not going to write a review of the interesting, quiet movie starring Bill Murray and Scarlet Johansson - though it is a good movie. I'm going to talk about going from seminary back to church.

Staring into Space

Last Monday, I walked across the stage of the National Cathedral and received my diploma. Behind me, beyond the choir area of the massive, beautiful Episcopalian cathedral, a holy wall lined with past saints looked on as I completed one journey and moved irrevocably into the future.
